MSW Concentration Field Education

Concentration field practicum is an advanced educational experience in an agency/community setting. This practicum builds on the foundation year and continues to provide opportunities to integrate theory and practice at an advanced, more in-depth level. Students take advanced academic courses either prior to or concurrently with concentration practicum.

Field faculty will meet with students early in the Spring Semester to initiate the placement process. Students have significant input into the placement request; although no specific placement is guaranteed. The field placement must match concentration choice: clinical practice or community empowerment and program development (CEPD).

**Please note that the majority of placements are during regular business hours and students need to be able to meet this requirement.

Concentration Field Requirements/Schedule

All students are enrolled in concentration practicum for two consecutive semesters in their final year of the program. Students will be in their field agencies for 24 hours a week for a total of 720 hours. Classes for full-time students are scheduled on Monday and Tuesday, allowing Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for practicum. However, the specific schedule is negotiated between the student and the agency field instructor. There is no concurrent seminar with concentration practicum.
