J. Lloyd Allen received his social work PhD in May 2017. He has accepted a position as an assistant professor at Wayne State University School of Social Work. Allen's research interests include gender and sexuality, HIV policy and advocacy, mental health and black gay men, community mobilization, program evaluation, masculinity, mental health, substance abuse, and gender inequality. Before coming to UGA, Allen worked as a program coordinator at NAESM (National Aids Education and Services for Minorities) providing HIV testing services, advocacy, and linkage to care for African Americans, specifically African American gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals living with HIV.
