Athens Day Reporting Center
  • Students in a forensic social work class prepared a half-day workshop for Athens-area probationers, providing information on how the probationer’s social environment impacts their lives in Athens and resources to help them make better decisions in the future. 
  • Burn Camp (Social Work with Burn Injured Children)
    • Burn Camp provided social work students with an intensive week working with burn-injured children to learn social work values as well as essential life lessons.
  • Dementia Caregiving
    • Students in Tiffany Washington's Dementia Caregiving course partner with the Athens Community Council on Aging to address the issue of caregiver burden.
  • Interdisciplinary Study Abroad in Ghana Program
    • Collaborations include working with the Ghanaian School Uniform and Resource project to bring school uniforms and other school resources to isolated communities in Ghana and conducting community outreach efforts with the West African AIDS Foundation, Inc. to encourage HIV/AIDS testing.
  • Parham Policy Day
    • This annual daylong program, organized by Parham Professor June Gary Hopps and students in her policy course, highlights the impact and importance of social policy in our society.
  • School Gardens
    • UGA students majoring horticulture, social work and family and consumer sciences taught children at five Athens area elementary schools about healthy eating, nature and sustainability.
  • Working with Older Adults, Oral History Preservation
    • Students teamed up with UGA’s Archway Partnership to help preserve the oral history of Hart County, while giving social work students experience working with older adults. Audio clips from the interviews are used in various media to help preserve the oral history of the community.
