Current and Prospective UGA Students
For entrance into the BSW program, students must first apply and be accepted to UGA via undergraduate admissions: UGA Undergraduate Information: First Year Students.
UGA Students may change their major to "Intended Social Work" at any point in their undergraduate studies. A separate application for the School of Social Work's BSW Professional Program is required for entry into upper-division course work, typically during a student’s third year. Students apply to the BSW Professional Program during the semester that they are completing the last of their lower-division, 2000-level SOWK courses. All students entering the BSW Professional Program must have an overall GPA of 2.5 and must have completed SOWK 2154 (3), SOWK 2154S (1), SOWK 2155 (3), and SOWK 2156 (3) with a grade of B- or higher. Applications will be distributed to eligible students at the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters.
Throughout the program, student evaluations will determine the student's compatibility with the professional practice of social work.
Students who plan to transfer to the University of Georgia and wish to pursue a BSW should plan to complete the following courses or their equivalents as determined by the BSW Program Director:
