About UGA's School of Social Work

The UGA School of Social Work has been preparing students for challenging and rewarding careers in social work for more than four decades. We opened our doors in 1964 with eight professors, 24 students, and one graduate degree program. Today, our School has over 20 faculty and a student body numbering nearly 500.
The School of Social Work at the University of Georgia is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and offers five degrees including the BSW, MSW, MSW/JD, PhD, and Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management. Our MSW Program is ranked in the top twenty-five percent of MSW programs nationwide by US News & World Report. Graduate students may earn specialized certificates in Marriage and Family Therapy, in Gerontology, and in Nonprofit Management. Our global programs include study abroad in Ghana, Northern Ireland, and Mexico. We have funded research achievements and study opportunities in gerontology, child welfare, health, substance abuse, civil rights, and juvenile justice. Our faculty members are productive and award-winning, and we are proud to highlight some of their recent accomplishments.
Other points of pride include: our service-learning projects such as Burn Camp and RecoveryAthens.org; our endowed professorships in Family and Children Studies and in Family and Child Welfare; our work toward establishing the Donald L. Hollowell Professorship of Social Justice and Civil Rights Studies; and the Foot Soldier Project for Civil Rights Studies and Research.
Extraordinary people make our school special, and it is our exceptional faculty and students who have helped our school climb the ranks to the top 25 percent of social work graduate programs nationwide. Over four thousand School of Social Work alumni are helping countless families and individuals throughout the nation and the world.
The University of Georgia School of Social Work is a great combination of academic excellence and commitment to social justice within a vibrant and friendly atmosphere. Our school continues to rise to the challenge of meeting the increasing demand for knowledgeable and skilled social work professionals in Georgia and beyond.
