MNPO Program Additional Requirements for Admission

There are three departmental requirements for your admission packet.

    1. Resume/Vita.  Submit a current resume detailing work, educational, professional and volunteer experience.
    2. Letter of Interest.  Please send a statement or essay about your interest in graduate education and a career in the nonprofit sector.
    3. Three Letters of Recommendation (one academic and two from employment supervisor or other director/mentor). The letters may be submitted one of three ways:
      • Via email to nprofit@uga.edu  They must be formal recommendation letters on letterhead and submitted as an attachment to the initial email. Letters in the body of the email will not be accepted. We will only accept emails sent directly from the recommender.
      • Via mail directly to the MNPO Program Office.  An optional  letter of recommendation form may also be used in conjunction to the letter.   Click here for the form.  The form must be filled out by both the applicant and the recommender.  The letter of recommendation and the optional form should be mailed directly to the MNPO Program Office at the following address:
University of Georgia Institute for Nonprofit Organizations
        School of Social Work
        MNPO Program Office
        416 Tucker Hall
        Athens, GA  30602-7016
      • Submitted online via the Graduate School admissions web site.  In addition to the online form, an accompanying formal recommendation letter is required.  These letters should be sent directly to the program office at the above address or via email as described above.
If requested by the admissions committee, an interview may be requested prior to a final decision about admission to the program.

    Admissions Deadlines

The MNPO Program does not adhere to specific deadlines for admissions. We have a rolling admissions policy and admit students for all semesters, Spring, Summer and Fall. However, we prefer for all prospective applicants to please submit their admissions materials no later than April for Summer and Fall admissions, and November for Spring admissions. This will ensure that our admissions committee will be able to review your application and make a timely decision.

Exceptional students applying for Summer and Fall semesters may also be nominated for a Graduate School Assistantship award, which has a late January, early February deadline. If you have the financial need and feel you are qualified for this award, your application materials must be completed no later than the first of February. Please click here for more information about Graduate School assistantships.

    GPA and Testing Requirements

The MA Program in Nonprofit Organizations requires either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Anologies Test (MAT) for admission.

    • GRE - The University of Georgia Graduate School recommends a total verbal and quantitative Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of no less than 1000, as well as an overall undergraduate grade point average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The mean GRE score for our current MNPO graduate students is appoximately 1182.
    • MAT - The program requires a MAT score of at least 398 for admission
Once the MNPO Program Office and the Graduate School has received all of your application materials, your application will be sent forward to the MNPO Program Admissions Committee for review. You will be notified by email of the committee's decision soon thereafter. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Kat Farlowe in the MNPO Program office, nprofit@uga.edu
