PhD Admissions - The Part-time Option

The part-time option is designed for students who live within driving distance of the Athens campus and need the flexibility of obtaining their PhD while maintaining other career and family obligations.  Students who select the part-time option may enter into the program during any semester — Fall, Spring or Summer.   Each student will be individually advised by the program director to plan their program of study.  Admission requirements for students seeking the part-time option are the same.

The timeline for obtaining the PhD for students using the part-time option will vary according to the individual; however, students must adhere to the Graduate School’s timeline for completing their studies.  PhD students have six years to complete required coursework and pass the comprehensive exam and five years post comprehensive exam to finish their dissertation.

Unfortunately, part-time students are not eligible to receive School of Social Work research assistantships or Graduate School assistantships.  The required number of hours for an assistantship is 12 hours each fall and spring semester and 9 hours during the summer semester.
