The Be Ahead Fellowship provides an opportunity for students to receive training, supervision, and practicum experience in substance use/opioid-use prevention, treatment, and recovery services. The project offers annual stipends to full time MSW students to support internship work in specified field placement settings during their specialization year.

Fellowships are supported by a grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to enhance community-based experiential training for students preparing to become behavioral health professionals with a focus on opioid use disorder (OUD) and other substance use disorders (SUD) prevention, treatment, and recovery services.

Fellowship selections are based upon goodness of fit with the program goal to increase the number of behavioral health professionals who provide substance use/opioid-use prevention, treatment, and recovery services. Applicants do not need an extensive background in substance use or opioid use.

If you are currently receiving additional funding, including from SDS, DBHDD, Title IV-E, or through a graduate assistantship, you are not eligible for the Be Ahead Fellowship. Should you have questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Orion Mowbray, at omowbray@uga.edu, 706-542-5441.
