The University of Georgia School of Social Work has announced that Anna Scheyett, its dean for the past five years, will step down from her leadership role on Dec. 31, 2021 and return to the faculty.
Her tenure has been defined by success and growth, with the School enjoying a 42 percent increase in enrollment, the launch of new degree programs, including an online Master of Social Work program, and a No. 12 ranking among social work programs in public universities in the U.S. News and World Report graduate program rankings. Scheyett also oversaw the establishment of the Center on Human Trafficking Research & Outreach and launch of new collaborations with UGA Cooperative Extension, the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.
A 14-person search advisory committee, led by Marsha Davis, the dean of the College of Public Health, has been tasked to conduct a national search for the next dean of the School. The committee is made up of faculty, staff and students from the School, as well as its Board of Advisors.
