John W. Gilford
Part-time Instructor
Dr. Gilford has over 30 years of social work and public health experience and his research and professional areas of interests include program evaluation, children’s mental health, HIV/AIDS prevention, and violence prevention. He has taught at the Gwinnett campus since 2003.
Dr. Gilford currently serves as the Regional Health Administrator for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), in Region 4 (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and six tribal nations). Prior to joining OASH, Dr. Gilford was employed at the CDC for 10 years as a Lead Behavioral Scientist. During his tenure at CDC, he served as Senior Scientist for the Prevention Practice and Translation Branch in the Division of Violence Prevention, and Team Lead for the Health Department Monitoring and Evaluation Team in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention.
