Yein Yoon is a PhD Candidate in Social Work at the University of Georgia, holding her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Welfare from the University of Seoul, South Korea. Her research agenda is organized around an environment-behavior-mental health framework to identify and intervene on modifiable behavioral targets (sleep and substance use) that translate community-level stressors and structural inequities into mental health outcomes.

Equally competent in quantitative and qualitative approaches, she is adept at integrating methodologies to fill research gaps and co-design community-driven interventions. Her expertise spans computational science, machine learning, spatial analysis (space syntax), handling biomarkers, community-based participatory research, system dynamics, and Q methodology.

Through collaborative efforts with interdisciplinary research teams in public health, psychology, urban design, and computer science, she contributes to uncovering structural mechanisms influencing behavioral and mental health outcomes. With extensive experience in government-funded community-engaged research, Yein bridges rigorous academic inquiry with meaningful community impact, ultimately advancing social change toward a more equitable society.
