Your future. Our commitment.

We work with the UGA Career Center, the Alumni Association, active and recently retired professionals and faculty to provide career and professional development opportunities that meet the needs of our students, graduates and employers.

Career Q&As and Information Sessions

The UGA Career Center offers career counseling and events geared specifically for social work students. See the Career Center Social Work page for details. Additionally, throughout the school year the School of Social Work, student organizations and other campus units hold a variety of information sessions, panel discussions and Q&As that can enhance professional knowledge, skill development and inform students about potential career paths. Students are notified about upcoming events through internal listservs. Events are also posted on the School of Social Work’s Calendar of Events page.

Mentor Program

Networking with your Bulldog family can help you get ahead in life and career. The UGA Mentor Program, the University’s first comprehensive mentorship initiative, is a digital platform which allows students to form mentoring relationships with alumni, regardless of geographic location. Get guidance and tips from someone who’s walked the path that you’re considering. Discuss job-hunting strategies, what to put on your resumé, how to handle interview questions, professional development opportunities, and more. For details, visit https://mentor.uga.edu/.

PhD students

Current doctoral students are notified by faculty throughout the year of entry-level academic positions at other institutions. Faculty also hold workshops on the job-seeking and interviewing strategies geared toward students who are nearing completion of their degree requirements. For more information, contact Jameelah Jones, jameelah@uga.edu.

Licensing Test Preparation

Throughout the year the School offers workshops on preparation for national social work licensure exams. These workshops are geared toward students who are in their last year of study for the MSW degree, alumni and the public and are held at the Athens and Gwinnett campuses. Students are notified of upcoming sessions through the School’s listservs. To be notified of the next workshop or for more information, contact NASW-GA.

Continuing Education

We support continuing education learning experiences that fulfill core hour requirements for licensing in various specialties. These experiences may be open to students, alumni and non-alumni, and take the form of workshops, seminars, online courses, conference events or other events approved by organizations authorized to offer continuing education credit, including the Georgia Composite Board of Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists. For more information, visit Continuing Education.
