Volunteer marshals will direct participants in lining up for the processional. The first person to proceed will be the last one to exit the Chapel; hence, the last person to proceed will be the first to exit. Graduates always follow the faculty–never go before them.
Masters and Ph.D. graduates: The hood should be placed over your right arm. Students follow the faculty when processing and recessing. Ph.D. recipients you may contact your major professor and if he/she can be present, you can have them perform this ritual for you.
Candidates should enter wearing their tassels over the right eye. You will approach the stage from your right.
We will provide participants with a card. Write your name on the card and any special details about how it should be pronounced. Give the card to a designated person so that your name can be announced. At this point, MSW, MNPO and PhD graduates will proceed to the faculty member who is assigned to hood them. BSW students will proceed to the BSW program director. Each participant will will walk over to Dean Scheyett, who will congratulate them. If you are part of the ceremony, keep in mind that the photographer will be taking pictures as you are hooded and/or congratulated.
After this, the graduating student will exit the stage and return to the audience seating.
