Christina Mahoney began her social work career as a family preservation/foster care case manager at Clarke County DFCS. It was here where she began to see how the various systems we live in impact and challenge the safety, permanency, and well being of children and families. After DFCS, Christina worked at Childkind for 7 years. While there, Christina served as a foster care case manager for medically fragile children in care. She also lead the agency’s program devoted to teaching families about their child’s complex medical needs and navigation of the medical and educational systems. It was during this time Christina fell completely in love with individuals with severe and profound disabilities. It was also during this time Christina saw first hand the injustices those with severe disabilities experience everyday. She learned how Medicaid, Medicaid Waivers, and our healthcare systems create additional challenges for this population. Simply put, the systems in place to help this population actually set them up for failure. Christina recently began her 6th year as a school social worker at a school serving students with severe and profound disabilities. Christina’s biggest passion is bringing awareness of the significant needs of those with severe and profound disabilities. Christina has also served as a field practice instructor for several MSW students and looks forward to meeting the next generation of future advocates and change agents.

Christina currently provides field supervision for MSW students.
