Mariam (she/her) is a PhD candidate under supervision of Dr. Orion Mowbray. Mariam’s research interests are mental health, substance use problem, interpersonal trauma, and parent-child relationship. During her PhD program, Mariam has co-authored several journal and conference papers. She was one of the recipients for the Graduate Education Advancement Board Fellowship (2021) and the Jane S. and W. Harry Willson Graduate Fellowship (2022 & 2023) from the University of Georgia. Using the theory of emerging adulthood, her current research focuses on examining the risk and protective factors in the association between parent-child relationship and child abuse experience in adolescence and misuse of prescription pain relievers in adults.

Before joining the University of Georgia, Mariam completed an MA in Clinical Psychology in the Tehran Psychiatric Institute, at the Iran University of Medical Sciences. Mariam worked for eight years with individuals, groups, couples, and families as a licensed psychotherapist in Tehran.
