Center for Social Justice, Human & Civil Rights

The Center for Social Justice, Human and Civil Rights works with university and community partners to foster a fair and inclusive society.

Founded in 2013, it brings attention to historic civil and human rights struggles, encourages scholarship that examines oppression and inequality, sponsors educational events and mentors future social justice leaders.

Through all its endeavors, the Center seeks thoughtful examination of community-engaged social change. The Center is currently led by Llewellyn Cornelius, the Donald L. Hollowell Distinguished Professor of Social Justice and Civil Rights Studies.

Podcasts

Hear experts and activists address topics that affect the human condition on a podcast moderated by students and Center Director Llewellyn Cornelius.

Topics have included healthcare, community organizing, transportation equity, co-op gardening, and immigration and refugee policy, to name just a few. Explore the entire library of podcasts at the UGA Kaltura site.

Affiliates

Center Affiliates engage in research on topics as varied as racial and ethnic health disparities, employment law, social policy for immigrant communities, and diversity in higher education, among others. Membership is open to university faculty and education professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to the Center’s activities and goals and share a common interest in interdisciplinary collaboration focused on social justice.
